Flashburn Funnies
The “burning” questions persists: did The Mad Peck, way back in 1972 create, in the pages of Fusion magazine, the concept of the “mix tape”? The magnetic audio cassette tape was a relatively new item at that time, reaching market dominance by the late 1960s, and Peck and his pals meticulously selected vinyl record singles to compile lists timed to fill out 60-minute cassettes. In addition, Peck drew a “topper” strip, starring the Masked Marvel and I.C. Lotz, which often guest-starred pop culture icons including Mr. Spock and Fritz… I mean Morris the Cat. The full-pagers lasted ’til the mag’s demise in ’74. (Select image to enlarge.)
